Original Charcoal Sketch of St. Catharine of Siena

- In 1980, Bishop McShea commissioned Dana Van Horn to paint murals for the
north and south sanctuary walls of the Cathedral, depicting events in the life of
St. Catharine of Siena. The mural paintings were installed and dedicated in 1982.
The north wall depicts St. Catharine leading Pope Gregory XI from Avignon to Rome.
This is the subject and action of the beautiful charcoal sketch.

- Since the original mural completion, Dana Van Horn has built a
very strong following in the art world. The murals are priceless and
are hallmarks of the Cathedral, showcased in this, the Pope's Year of Hope.
